Hi! My name is Dave Haber. I'm relatively new to the hobby of license plate collecting, I bought my first plate off of eBay in June, 2000. I originally sought out a few unique plates to decorate the walls of my office cubicle, but after having the first few plates in my hands, I was hooked! I joined ALPCA a few months later.

Everybody needs a specialty, and early on I saw that collecting my birth year (1955) would be pretty difficult, so I decided on specializing in California plates instead.

California plates are special, because even though it is perfectly legal to possess these plates, the California DMV requires all old license plates be turned in when they are replaced, and that auto dismantlers account for and destroy all plates. This means that practically the only way we get these plates is when cars leave the state and then are reregistered or dismantled. This makes our plates rarer than other states, even though we have so many millions of registered vehicles.

Upon making the decision to specialize in California plates, I immediately went to see if the domain calpl8s.com was taken, because making web sites is what I do. It wasn't taken, so I grabbed it. The rest is history.
